Much is made of Sam Walton's ten commandments for retail success - and rightly so.  Regardless of diverse opinions on modern Wal-Mart, the behemoth, Walton's original simple philosophy, from the 1960s, helped build a phenomenal company.

To remind us:

Commit to your business
Share profits with employees
Motivate your team
Communicate everything possible with your team
Appreciate your team’s efforts
Celebrate success
Listen to everyone in your business
Exceed customers’ expectations
Control costs
Swim upstream…do things differently from competitors

I wonder what modern retail's commandments would be in these tough times because the Walton 10 might sound a bit shallow when observing the slow death of the High Street.
