In the past week, I have shopped in Asda, Sainsbury's, Tesco and Morrisons and, my God, the bargains and promos in all four are almost jumping off the shelves.

It seems to me that at the behemoth level of retailing, price and marketing wars are as intense and vibrant as ever - all very good news for cash-strapped customers.

I reckon that for £10, customers can bag a decent amount of shopping that could, with initiative, last 5 or more days for a family of 4.

The moaners continue to bleat about supermarket dominance - and occasionally they have a point - but right now the biggies are delivering value for money in these tough times and - get ready - they should be applauded for reacting quickly and decisively to customer circumstances.

Bash the big supermarkets when they deserve it, but give credit when it's due.

Three cheers for Asda, Sainsbury's, Tesco & Morrrisons!
